Where Recovery and Motherhood Meet: Our Commitment to Care

By: Kristen Lonigan, Director of Admissions and Business Development

At The Next Door Recovery, we believe in meeting women where they are, including when they are carrying both new life and the weight of substance use. Recovery doesn’t pause for pregnancy, and motherhood doesn’t wait for healing. That’s why our care is built at the intersection of the two, where recovery and motherhood meet, and dignity leads the way. We don’t just offer treatment. We offer presence.

A Safe Place to Begin Again

Pregnancy is often romanticized as a glowing season of joy. Still, for many of the women we serve, it’s marked by trauma, fear, and stigma. Some have lost custody before, been turned away by other providers, and carry the weight of isolation. That’s why we’ve created something intentional: a place where pregnant women can receive nonjudgmental, whole-person-centered care up to 38 weeks into pregnancy. Here, she can take the first steps toward recovery, knowing she won’t be shamed for her past—only supported for her future.

We Treat the Whole Woman

At The Next Door Recovery, we don’t just treat addiction. We care for the entire woman: her body, her mind, her spirit, and her baby. Our services are designed to nurture her recovery and motherhood with equal care and intentionality.

Every woman in our program receives:

  • Daily obstetric assessments
  • On-site prenatal care from our OB-GYN
  • Weekly medical groups focused on pregnancy, postpartum health, and newborn care
  • Parenting and life skills classes
  • Supportive peer-led recovery groups
  • Newborn education with experienced nurses
  • A dedicated doula who walks beside her through birth and remains connected even after discharge

A Team That Walks Beside Her

Our OB-GYN is more than a provider; she’s a partner in healing. She offers consistent, trauma-informed care throughout pregnancy and collaborates closely with each woman’s care team.

Our Doula provides personalized support—offering advocacy, encouragement, and compassion. From prenatal visits to the delivery room to the emotional ups and downs of postpartum, she remains a constant in a world that so often isn’t. Because the recovery journey doesn’t end at birth. It evolves. And so does our care.

Grace Over Guilt. Presence Over Punishment.

So many of the women we serve have been met with judgment or turned away in times of crisis. They needed intensive support and, instead, were criminalized, ignored, or left out of the systems that should have protected them. We meet them with radical compassion. Our care is trauma-informed because we understand that substance use is often rooted in pain. Our foundation is Christ-centered, grounded in grace, mercy, and the belief in redemption. We know shame keeps women sick. Compassion helps them recover.
